This class will be a highly collaborative class which will bring together diverse groups of Jewish and Arab students from the Kibbutzim College in Tel Aviv, Israel, and a diverse group of students from the University of Kassel, Kassel, Germany to form an academic cyberspace community. All classes will start regularly at the beginning of the winter term; the Kassel class will start on October 18th with introductory face to face meetings. Throughout the intense time of online cooperation between the campuses in November, December and January 2016/2017 stable groups will be formed, with two students from Tel Aviv and Kassel.
Specific online environments will be created to allow the groups productive and creative work on the topic Research in Distance Learning in online settings. The highlight of the online cooperation will be three video conferences of all campuses which will be held on November 22nd, January 10th and January 31st. On these days the class will be conducted from 1 pm till 3pm, on all other days as listed from 2 pm till 4 pm. The basic principle of the class will be learning by doing. This means that as described in the LMR plus Model (Finkbeiner, 2004) you will be both learners, moderators and researchers alike. In this class you will learn about distance learning and about research in DL both theoretically by reading and critically discussing studies and methods and by practically experiencing research in distance learning yourselves. You will also consider how to implement this into the classroom. The focus will be on qualitative methods, particularly on interviews and you will apply what you have learned about research in your own groups by cooperating on online platfroms such as -Blackboard-. The intriguing aspect of this class is that you will gain insight into worlds that so far might not have been known to you. Next to the academic gain there is a lot in it for each single participant: the great chance of strong friendship and trust building.
