>>>> You need to register for this course at http://www.uni-kassel.de/go/flul-anmeldung before April 1st, 2008 (12:00)!! <<<< The course „How languages are learned: a theoretical aproach“ will focus on theories and research in the area of second language acquisition. We will explore the concepts that a number of different researchers have developed in this field. Some of the fundamental questions that will be raised include: - Is language learning just like any other kind of learning? - How important are imitation and practice for language learning? - Does it help to correct learners when they make errors? - What is the importance of interaction, negotiation and collaboration? - Is there a role for the L1 in L2 learning? We will also devote attention to individual learner characteristics such as attitude, aptitude, age, and so on, and different contexts of language learning. In addition, we will explore learners' errors as well as compare natural and instructional environments for second language learning. Finally we will look at the various proposals for the most effective way to teach second languages. Part of this seminar is the reflexion on our own language learning process. Therefore, students attending this course also need to take the 'Uebung' -How languages are learned: practical implementations- since this course is designed as a language course in which we will learn Spanish.
