Jetzt Lernplan erstellenComputer and Internet have become common features of our day-to-day lives. Consequently, new technologies are now regarded as useful tools for language learning. The question is, however, in what way these tools – particularly the kind of platforms the -new” Web 2.0 has on offer - can be used to provide a basis for new and flexible (innovative) learning scenarios in the language classroom. Looking at the kind of materials currently available for language learning, it must be said that there still is too much of the instructional kind and too little of the learning tools or edutainment type available.
This seminar will investigate examples of computer software and internet materials for language learning and establish criteria for innovative and motivating uses of new technologies in this area. The theoretical principles of second language acquisition with a focus on TBL (Task-Based Learning) and authenticity in language learning will be discussed and samples of good practice identified.
The seminar will be run on a -hands-on principle”. Students will not simply be taught but given the chance to discover by themselves the advantages and disadvantages of Computer Assisted Language Learning by working on small projects to be presented in class.
