This introductory course will provide students with both the fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge and skills needed to manage EFL (= English as a Foreign Language) classrooms. In a first step, we will focus on the dichotomous role of you as a TESL/TEFL student: still being a student yourself on the one hand and becoming a teacher on the other hand. We will concentrate on the research outcomes of the autonomous learner and the whole field covering learning strategies, learning techniques, action oriented teaching and learner characteristics such as motivation and interest. One of the guiding questions will be: how can we and our students become independent and self-directed learners? How can we gain access to knowledge resources, to latest publications and to innovate classroom material? In a second step, we will focus on the learning/acquisition process. Understanding the way in which people learn languages, how they communicate with each other and how they negotiate meaning is of highest importance for the practical implications of language teaching. In this context we will focus on different language skills, such as speaking, reading, writing, listening as well as different methodological approaches, such as computer assisted language learning, content based language learning, and language awareness. Will be announced in the first session. Voraussetzungen Registration: The number of participants in this seminar is limited to 50 students. Therefore, you need to register until 19 October, 2016 (8 pm) (first come, first served). Leistungsnachweis Active participation, weekly assignments and final exam.
