In this course we will study selected texts (prose, verse, drama) from the 14th and 15th centuries from linguistic and literary perspectives. For beginners it offers an introduction to Middle English (Proseminar). Advanced students can take it as a Hauptseminar (with extra assignments) under the condition that they have previously taken a Proseminar course in Middle English. The course can be taken with the goal of -active participation only-. A final test (Klausur) will be offered. A term paper (-Hausarbeit-) is the alternative. The course will take place on the following Mondays and Fridays from 8-10: April 8, 11, 15, 18. June 17, 20, 24, 27, July 1, 4, 8, 11, 15. Attention: April 8 is the Friday before the first official day of classes of the Summer Semester. In preparation of the first class, all students are requested to read the chapter on the history of the English language of the OK textbook Becker, Annette & Markus Bieswanger (2006).
