Projekt Basketball Arena in the year 2020

FIBA/IAKS Architecture Students Competition• Introduction The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) are launching an architecture students competition on the -Basketball Arena in the year 2020-. Students participating shall develop visionary basketball arena concepts and creative design concepts for multifunctional buildings. The aim of the competition is to design a multifunctional basketball arena with at least 13,000 spectator seats. Procedure Students from the architectural departments of Dresden Technical University, of Kassel University and of Copenhagen Royal Academy of Fine Arts are eligible to enter the competition. Applications will have to be submitted until 1st August 2009 via the respective University Professor in charge of the competition. Students will be required to submit drawings (floor plans, sections and elevations) and a model. FIBA and IAKS will support the students work by providing detailed competition rules and information about exemplary basketball arenas. • Prizes FIBA and IAKS will give three prizes (Gold, Silver, Bronze medal) and three Distinctions. Each prize and distinction will include a certain financial compensation. In addition, each cooperating university department will be honoured with a special certificate. The prize giving ceremony will take place at FSB - International Trade Fair for Amenity Areas, Sports and Pool Facilities - from 28th to 30th October 2009 in Cologne, Germany.
