The urban design studio addresses the transformation of two urban areas in the Megacity São Paulo: the CEAGESP area, and the Corinthians-Itaquera subway area. The conceptual background for this studio is an Archipelago vision of São Paulo. Urban projects in a place-based approach can contribute to the enhancing of interfaces between different layers and scales of design: the integrative spatial, social and economic cohesion of mixed resilient urban islands; the intelligent interfaces and the possible connecting role of quarters in metropolitan flows and networks; and the innovative reformulation of urban typologies of buildings and open spaces. This shared discussion combines specific starting points for the two areas, for the analysis of territorial potentials and for the formulation of spatial structuring and strategies. For CEAGESP as actual site of the largest wholesale market for vegetables in Southern America, with the Pavilhão do Mercado Livre do Produtor (MLP), the transformation vision as urban gateway and dense quarter will be connected with the research in innovative flows of food, resource circulation, energy, sustainable mobility. Corinthians-Itaquera as actual void is filled dispersedly with infrastructures and the Corinthians Stadium. The perspective of a renewal and enhancement of public transport may lead to the concept of an urban hub, connected to urban projects for the adjoining quarters.
Outputs: analytic maps and diagrams, conceptual plans, sections and diagrams, three-dimensional representations, models; in a range of scales between metropolitan, city centre, quarter (1:5000-1:2000), and zoom of block and building typology (1:1000-1:200).
For the CEAGESP area a participation in the Schindler Global Award competition 2017 -Transforming the urban core: Urban design for coexistence. São Paulo, Brazil- is possible.
