Description of the Lecture (including the schedule if not weekly) The aim of this course is to analyse the theoretical and methodological background and the main European trends, research issues and key European institutions/associations in adult education research and development. Also, the course will elaborate upon the priorities of the EU Communication and the Action Plan on adult learning which have promoted researches in national contexts with the participation of adult education organisations and institutions. Main themes: - Adult education research and development in the ET (Education and Training) Framework of the European Union: the impact of lifelong leaning strategies on research and development. - The choices of educational and training developments of the Leonardo da Vinci programme and that of the Socrates-Erasmus exchange programmes in the research and innovation of adult education; - The impact of the Lifelong Learning Programmes of the European Commission and of the recommendations of Education and Training 2020 Programme; The influence of the EU Communication and the Action Plan on adult Learning. the 7th Framework Programme (2007-2013), and other EU-funded programmes; - The recommendations of the European Association fort he Education of Adults (EAEA) and their impacts on the contents of adult education reseaqrch and development; The research priorities of the European Society for the Resesarch of the Education of Adults (ESREA); - A joint survey of EURYDICE and the European Commission on Non-formal adult education; - The role of European higher education in adult education research (Activities of EUCEN and of EUA); Main themes of adult education research and development – professional development of adult educators; the impact of the Bologna-process on adult learning and education research. Developments of BA and MA in adult education as a research area (e.g. the EMAE and the TEACH projects), the AGADE project of the EAEA; - The priorities of the UNESCO and of the OECD referring to adult education research and development (e.g. the activities of the UNESCO-UIL and of the OECD-CERI); - The development of competencies of Adult Educators as a research theme; Other research areas in AE: migration and inclusion; Assessment and counselling and validation of prion learning (RPL-VPL); Learning cities-regions and adult learning; - The research and development activities of significant institutes of adult education in some European countries (NIACE , UK; DIE, IIZ-DVV, Germany; ÖVV, Austria; SVEB, Switzerland) - the role of major journals in adult education research. - Conclusions.
