Seminar Morphology Mo 12.30 h

The aim of this Methodenmodul seminar is to provide an introduction to basic methodological tools needed to do empirical research in English morphology (and elsewhere), and to document this work in an appropriate form. Our focus in this course will be on quantitative work. After a revision of your knowledge of English morphology, we will concentrate on the structure of English complex words by looking at different strategies to investigate the decomposability of complex words. These different strategies will give students the opportunity to try out and learn how to use appropriate methodologies, which crucially involve working with the pertinent literature, designing and conducting empirical work that is adequate to supply the right data, analyzing linguistic data, and documenting the results in an appropriate form (such as a presentation or a termpaper).
