This seminar course will be held by guest lecturer Sameer Patil from Helsinki Institute for Information Technology. It serves as an introduction to topics that deal with usability/user experience of security and privacy issues in IT. Students will learn how to approach security and privacy from human centered point of view and how to design usable and effective interfaces for security and privacy management. The course materials will comprise 20-30 seminal and fundamental readings on the topic of usable security and privacy. The content will cover a variety of technologies, including social media and mobile devices, and draw upon insights from multiple disciplines, including computer science, psychology, sociology, economics, etc. Students will be involved in discussion and presentation of the course material. Course grade will be based on presentations of readings, written assignments, and class participation. The first session of the seminar will be held on July 17th 12:00h in room H-C 8326. During this session, students will be informed of the syllabus and grade details. The subsequent sessions will be held as a block during August 2014. The exact dates will be determined based on student input during the first session.
