Übung Introduction to Model United Nations DuEMUN 2015

The central project of this seminar is the preparation of the 11th -Duisburg-Essen Model United Nations- (DuEMUN) to be held at the University of Duisburg-Essen in June 2015. DuEMUN is a Model United Nations Simulation. This means that students assume the roles of politicians, experts, members of the press and UN staff to simulate political debates in the United Nations. Since 2010, the conference also includes other bodies such as the European Union or the G20. The seminar will introduce you to the institutions that will be simulated at DuEMUN XI 2015 as well as prepare you in negotiation skills. Two short simulations to train the rules of procedure and negotiation skills are part of the course as well. To take part in the conference and the seminar you first have to apply for a delegation at www.duemun.de. The seminar will take place at Campus Duisburg in SG 135 (Aula Geibelstraße) six times plus the DuEMUN conference: Friday, 17-04-15 (12 am-2 pm): Introduction Friday, 24-04-15 (12 am-2 pm): Institutions and overview on the topics Friday, 08-05-15 (12 am-3 pm): Rules of procedure and speech training Friday, 22-05-15 (12 am-3 pm): 1st Mini-MUN Friday, 29-05-15 (12 am-3 pm): 2nd Mini-MUN Monday, 08-06-15 - Friday, 12-06-15: DuEMUN XI 2015 Friday, 26-06-15 (12 am-2 pm): Evaluation Necessary information as well as literature to the institutions and topics will be available at the Moodle server. Keyword and link will be announced at the first session of the seminar. All participants of the conference are required to pay a conference fee of 70 Euros. This fee covers materials, badges and placards. Snacks and drinks for the duration of the simulation are included in this fee. To earn 4 ECTS credit points you have to attend all sessions of the seminar, write a position paper for the country you represent concerning the topics of the institution you will be part of, and participate in the DuEMUN XI 2015 conference. Two additional ECTS credit points can be earned by succesuflly submitting a seminar thesis.
