From the turn-of-the-century Irish Renaissance, we again find a parallel development in British and Irish literatures. Since the 1920s, the electronic media provide new opportunities for literature, but also pose a challenge. A radical break with literary conventions happens in the free verse of T.S. Eliot and Ted Hughes as well as in the interior monologue and further fictional experiments of James Joyce and Virginia Woolf. This is however no model for all. Poets such as Philip Larkin abstained from that free verse movement, others – most notably W.H. Auden and Dylan Thomas – tested out alternative forms such as accentual and syllabic verse . Writers of mainstream fiction successfully retained and entertained their audience not only with stories of crime, thrill and adventure, but also with psychological realism and (historical) novels of character. The multicultural character of postcolonial British society is reflected in poetry, fiction and stage-plays alike. Since the 1950s, a flowering of British and Irish drama occurred in various venues, from the West End stages to the Fringe, as well as in radio and television.

Sie erhalten 3 ECTS, wenn Sie entweder eine Klausur (30-60 Min.) schreiben oder eine mündliche Prüfung (15-30 Min.) ablegen oder ein Portfolio (20.000-40.000 Zeichen) fertigen. Die Prüfung muss benotet sein. Die Wahl der Prüfungsart liegt beim Dozenten.
