Vorlesung English Vocabulary and Meaning

This lecture series is concerned with the level of language which includes meaning in both a more abstract sense and as determined by language use in situational contexts. Thus the interest will lie on the one hand with the internal linguistic phenomenon of meaning which comprises such areas as word-fields, etymology, grammatical vs. lexical words, etc. and on the other with more social aspects which are evident in the area of pragmatics which investigates the regularities of language use in interpersonal communication.
