Time:
Fridays, starting at 10:15am sharp and ending at around 11:45am.
The first class is on April 22 (i.e., there is no class on April 15). Please send the instructor an Email if you cannot attend the first class.
Course Objective & Notice:
The primary goal of this course is to learn the recent advancements of Theory IO. The auxiliary goal is to come up an original research idea in IO or some related field.
Grading is based on presentation, active participation, and a final written-up assignment. Note that master students cannot obtain ECTS points for the course. However, anyone is interested in IO/Applied Theory is more than welcome to attend the course.
Prerequisites:
The course is for Ph.D. students and advanced master students: graduate-level Microeconomic Theory and Game Theory are prerequisites. Prior exposure to IO is not required (though would be helpful).
Course Logistics:
We cover Theory IO papers recently published in top journals as many as possible (priority on non-behavioral and non-highly-technical papers). From the second class, we cover 1-2 papers in each class. For each paper, we have 30-minute presentation (by a participant or the instructor) and 15-minute discussion.
Assignments:
(i) For papers you will present, read all of the main text, check the proof of the main proposition, and create presentation slides.
(ii) For papers you will not present, read Abstract and Introduction carefully before the class.
(iii) Submitting either a research proposal or an original idea log at the end of the semester (specified in the first class).
