Excursion 2011 Cardiff

Excursion to Cardiff: 9-17.09.2011 This year's excursion will lead us to Cardiff, capital of Wales. Cardiff is a city proud of its culture, history and language which has undergone a fascinating journey over the last 2000 years. We will discover Cardiff's progress from a small settlement, to the world's busiest port, to the modern capital city it is today. Apart from churches and the remains of an old Roman fort, Cardiff offers plenty of sights like the Pier Head building, the Welsh Assembly, the Millennium Centre, Cardiff Castle, arts museums and the Museum of Welsh Life. Rolling hills, and the most beautiful countryside are on offer for outdoor activities. Walking part of the famous Offa's Dyke path, a long-distance walk running along the Welsh-English border, might even be part of our itinerary, as well as Hay-on-Wye, the border town which has become the world's biggest second-hand bookstore. Base-camp will be in the university's halls of residence. The self-catering apartments sleep up to eight students in single en-suite bedrooms. The two preparatory seminars will take place on May 12 and June 16 (from 18-21:30h on both days; AR-D 6104), with a follow-up session on an evening early in WS 2011/12.
