From October 2010 onwards we are reloading our Tandem project that links us to the teacher training seminars (Studienseminare) in our area. Within this project students buddy up with a trainee teacher (Lehramtsanwärter) and attend at least three of his or her English lessons per week. There has always been close cooperation between students and trainee teachers in the past that included feedback on each others' lessons, assistance during lessons through the students and sometimes also cooperative marking of tests and consultations for the assessment of students. Although types of cooperation might, depending on the contexts, differ slightly, it definitely is a glimpse behind the scenes of the Referendariat that also includes at least one visit to the Studienseminar Essen. It is a chance to have a mentor whose situation is not too far remote from one's own one and to watch and try out teaching ideas in a safe environment before starting out the Referendariat. Students who take part in this project do this instead of the regular -Kolloquium- and -Workshop- that they have to do for their school practice part (Module VII) of their English studies. The project is accompanied by a reader with tasks and regular (not weekly) meetings at the time allocated to the seminar.
