PS -Writing in the EFL – topics and methods” Course description Writing, one of the 4 competences in the EFL when it comes to acquiring/learning a language, is often neglected due to the focus on speaking and communicating. However, we should not underestimate its meaning in an increasingly mobile world in which a lot of pupils go abroad and are thus confronted with writing. In this seminar, we are going to take a look at different ways and methods of writing and how teachers can support pupils in their learning processes (How to write summaries, comments, analyses of speeches and literature, CVs, letters of application, a reading log, a letter to the editor, issues of creative writing). In order to do so, we take a look at different topics dealt with in classes 5-12. Moreover, we are going to analyse school books and the writing tasks they provide. With regard to an orientation on competences, we are going to develop meaningful writing tasks in a competence-oriented way. How can students learn to express themselves properly? By which methods do they find the right code to address people in different situations? In which ways can we avoid -teaching to the test- and still prepare learners for final exams? And how can the different texts written by pupils finally be assessed? Authentic material (written pieces by pupils of different levels) are offered in order to evaluate their comptences. Students of L2, L3 and L4 are welcome. Students are asked to give presentations, to work on competence-oriented learning tasks and to read the given literature.
