For instance, one can understand how to choose the best type of auction or how to foster cooperation.
The goal of this course is to explain (1) why laboratory experiments are useful, (2) which problems experimental economics covers,
(3) how to provide lab experiments, and (4) work with the laboratory data.
You will learn:
1. Why are the laboratory experiments useful?
2. What do we know about individual choice when risk and ambiguity are present?
3. How do people bargain?
4. How do people solve coordination problems?
5. How to solve problems of the industrial organization?
6. How to analyze monetary or fiscal problems?
7. What can we learn from brain studies or going out from the lab?
We will discuss the results of lab experiments, data analysis, and individual projects.
Requirements:
1. Presentation (5-10 minutes), completion of mandatory reading and active participation in discussion of the papers during the seminar
(Not more than 20% missed seminars without a good reason). 35%
2. Seminar paper (65%) based on either:
2.1 Design of the experiment (3-4 pages). Structure: (1) Statement of the problem, (2) Literature review, (3) Formal model, (4) Expected results (5) Description of the experiment (6) Experimental Instructions. (Individual: max. 1 person)
or
2.2 Reproduction of the experimental data analysis. Structure of work: (1) Acquire the data, (2) Reproduce the data analysis, (3) Compare results with results of the paper, (4) Make a report. (Group or individual: max. 2 persons)
