Learning from foreign movement cultures - Physiotherapy in India and New Zealand – Sports rehabilitation, cognition & management of lower back pain Content: What causes sports injuries? What role does physiotherapy play in managing sports injuries? How is cognition involved in sports injuries? Can you enhance learning and rehabilitation by manipulating cognition? Does the rehabilitation approach in developed and developing countries differ? While answering these questions, this seminar aims to introduce some of the major issues and discoveries in the field of sports injury rehabilitation. A comprehensive understanding of the functional anatomy, kinematics, and management of sports injuries will be developed in this seminar. A special emphasis from a physiotherapeutic point of view will be laid on discussing the etiology and treatment protocols for common sports injuries such as low back pain, ankle sprain, knee injuries. Moreover, a ‘hands-on practical approach’ will be included to educate the students regarding basic diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for managing sports injuries including massage, joint mobilization, yoga, and advanced stretching techniques. The seminar would also incorporate methods for diagnosing and improving motor learning in special pedagogy cases. Further, differences between the injury and rehabilitation parameters of developed and developing countries will be discussed.
