If you are registered and do not participate (i.e., do not hand in an assignment at the end of the seminar) you will receive a -fail” grade. More information will be given in the first session on October 8, 2013. These terms are non-negotiable! General Regulations: • Level: Master • 4 SWS, 6 Credits, Time of attendance (Präsenzzeit): 60h; Self-study time: 120h • Proof of performance (Leistungsnachweis): Written assignment on a qualitative research project (Topic: -New Business Models”) which includes collecting and analyzing qualitative empirical data (interviews), presentation of your results in class Lerninhalte The seminar deals with the basics of qualitative-empirical research in business studies. A wide range of topics such as the nature of qualitative research, different sources of data, handling of data and qualitative data analysis, quality criteria in qualitative research, different research approaches and concepts and so on will be covered. Students will, amongst other things, learn how to distinguish good quality research from mediocre approaches and how to avoid pitfalls. After the introductory week (where we will introduce and discuss all the above mentioned issues) you will apply the new knowledge in an own qualitative research project. The topic will be -New Business Models” (i.e., business models that holistically embrace the concept of sustainable value creation in an innovative way). You will collect qualitative empirical data by conducting interviews. Afterwards you will analyze the qualitative data and illustrate your findings in a written assignment which will be presented in class. Literature (examples!): • Brymann, A. & Bell, E. (2011).
