The principal method of working in this course are group discussions based on extracts from a DVD which portrays incidents in the life of an international project team. An important resource are audio interviews with professionals working internationally. The discussions are based on interaction and sharing information. Additionally you will study different country profiles and work with Best Practice files on running and participating in international projects.
The course is based and structured around critical incidents in the life of an international project team:
• Getting to know the team – building rapport and understanding
• Roles – expectations of individual team members. Explore the issue of roles inside project teams. Identify best practices for defining and maintaining role definition in an international project.
• Feedback – motivating and inspiring team members. The specific objectives are to gain cultural insights into giving and receiving feedback and to gain interpersonal insights.
• Conflict – handling conflict between team members. Focus at conflict between two members of the project team. Identify best practices for resolving conflict.
• Cooperation – working together.
Each unit has different learning modules:
Video learning Tasks are based on one or two scenes in the life of an international project team.
Audio learning Tasks are based on two or three audio interviews with specialists working internationally.

This course is designed to develop your personal intercultural competence. It aims to develop competence in three broad areas:
Understanding culture and its impact on behaviour in international teams.Understanding yourself and other members of your international team.Developing communication strategies and skills to get the best out of international teams. Students obtain skills in communicating effectively in a team in a foreign language.
The Students will receive a glossary covering key intercultural and management terms. Web links to country profiles and other useful websites. Best Practice files on running and participating in international projects. A TIP (The International Profiler) competency overview which identifies key intercultural competencies. Die Studierenden sollen in der Lage sein, mündlich und schriftlich auf Englisch zu kommunizieren. sowie die Bereitschaft mitbringen, sich regelmäßig und aktiv an den Aufgaben, Gruppendiskussionen, Beobachtung- und Analyseübungen zu beteiligen. Die interaktive Bearbeitung von Fallstudien (Filmabschnitte und Interviews) zu typischen Situationen, Ereignissen und Prozessen aus dem (Arbeits)Alltag internationaler Projektteams steht im Zentrum dieser Veranstaltung. Entsprechende Arbeitsmaterialien sind in englischer Sprache.
Studienleistung zum Erwerb von ECTS-Credits:
Regelmäßige, aktive Teilnahme an allen Übungen und Diskussionen, Erstellung eines Reflexionsberichtes (ca. 4 Seiten), Dokumentation des eigenen Lernfortschrittes (ca. 2 Seiten).
Dies gilt auch für den Erwerb eines Teilnahmezertifikats. Reine Anwesenheitsscheine werden nicht ausgestellt!
