-Technology will not replace teachers; teachers who use technology will replace those who don't!- Today, electronic resources for learning are easily available for everyone, ranging from CD-ROMs added to course books and language learning software to online resources or fully-fledged online learning communities. More than ten years after internet access became widely available for the public, alongside the introduction of computer rooms to almost every school, researchers show consensus about at least one thing: electronic materials and methods can be used most effectively as a supplement to -old school” teaching methods in the class room, but they cannot replace them completely. In this group-work driven seminar, students will become acquainted with various ways to complement traditional teaching with electronic resources, including both materials and methods. We will look at collaboration platforms like Moodle, online resources for teachers and students alike, how to use the web to gather authentic materials and how to prepare these materials for use in the classroom. As this is a -Sprachpraxis” course, the focus will not be on theories involved with the topic but rather on exploring and discussing the possibilities of electronic resources ourselves with a hands-on approach. We will try out most of the methods and materials ourselves and discuss pros, cons and possible applications. While students may be familiar with some of the materials and methods involved, this seminar should offer insights into ways to integrate them dynamically into various learning environments. The seminar will take place as a compact course in two blocks with a couple of weeks in between. At the end of the first block, students will form groups to work on a project to create extensive materials for a so-called WebQuest until the second block, in which the results of the group work will be reviewed and the newly-created WebQuests will be tested with the whole group. Englisch, LA Haupt / Real, PO 2004 Students will be asked to contribute to the sessions with their own projects on the topics we will be discussing during this seminar. To obtain credit points, students are expected to participate actively in all parts of the compact course and take part in various group work exercises, including the creation of a larger project between the two seminar blocks.
