Introductory meeting The details of the seminar will be introduced in this meeting. We will introduce 3-4 main subjects for the seminar papers. The meeting will take place on February 3, 2016. Selection of preferred subjects and working period You will be asked to fill out a form with your preferred subjects, working period and your background in econometrics. The forms will be distributed during the introductory meeting and will also be available online. The deadline for the submission of the form is February 12, 2016. Possible working periods (4 weeks) are: • 22.02.-20.03.2016 • 07.03.-03.04.2016 • 21.03.-17.04.2016 • 04.04.-01.05.2016 • 18.04.-15.05.2016 Based on your preferences and background, a seminar topic will be assigned to you and will be sent to your email address on the first day of your working period. Therefore, make sure that you provide an active email address in the form. Each topic will be assigned to two students. Please note that when the topic is sent to you, the registration becomes binding. Admission to the seminar Please send your transcript (Kontoauszug) to Maximiliane Hörl (Maximiliane.Hoerl@econ.lmu.de) as soon as possible (latest the day before the beginning of your working period) in order to verify that you are allowed to be admitted to this seminar. Without the verification of the eligibility, we cannot send you your seminar topic. Working period and submission After you receive your topic, it is recommended that you carefully read the assigned literature and prepare an outline for the seminar paper. With this outline, consult your advisor as soon as possible to get the first feedback and to clarify any related questions. Please make an appointment with your advisor per email beforehand. During the working period, you have to have a least one meeting with your advisor. Seminar papers must be submitted in PDF format before midnight (23:59) on the last day of your working period per email to Maximiliane Hörl (Maximiliane.Hoerl@econ.lmu.de). Additionally, hard copies must be also submitted. However, you can hand in the printed version at a later point of time. The submission time of the electronic version is relevant for grading. Seminar and presentations The seminar will take place on June 3 and 4, 2016. The location and the exact schedule will be announced. Each seminar participant has to prepare one main presentation and one discussion on her/his topic. The main presentation should present the paper including the general topic, econometric methods as well as results. The discussion should critically assess the general relevance of the paper for the literature, discuss the applicability of methods and the relevance for public policy. It will be decided randomly at the day of the blocked seminar who (of the two students working on the same topic) is giving the main presentation and who is giving the discussion. The slides of the main presentation and discussion must be sent before midnight (23:59) on June 2, 2016. Grading The final grade will be based on written seminar paper, oral presentation and slides for both parts. Volkswirtschaftliche Fakultät LMU München SoSe 2016 Dozent
