– Introductory meeting (04.07.)
– Block seminar (t.b.a., October/November)
– The seminar will be held in English
Course credit:
– Essay (completion within 4 weeks, approx. 30,000 characters)
– Presentation (approx. 20 minutes) and participation in the discussions during the seminar
(The essay is to be written before/during the semester; topics will be assigned – based on students’ preferences – after the introductory meeting.)
Prerequisites: Empirische Ökonomie 1 & 2 (or an equivalent Introductory Econometrics course)
Content:
The seminar will focus on a variety of topics in empirical health economics and health policy, for instance:
– What is health? How can we measure health?
– Health investments and health in a life-cycle perspective
– Causal links between socio-economic status and health
– The demand for health and health care
– The role of health service providers (physicians, hospitals, etc.)
– Health insurance
We will introduce further details and give a general overview in the organizational meeting of the main topics, which will be based on (published) research articles. Essays and student presentations will reconsider these substantive research questions and the empirical methods employed. There is some flexibility with respect to the focus of these essays and presentations (methodological/econometric, literature reviews, etc.).
