This is a version of the -Introduction to Literary Studies- - Course exclusively for Kulturwirt students. This course is NOT divided into lecture and -Übung.- This means the attendance of the lecture is not mandatory. Like in the other -Introduction to Literary Studies- - Courses, a variety of texts from all over the Anglophone world will help illustrate important aspects of literature such as the characteristics of the major epochs and genres as well as various theoretical approaches to literature, and so forth. Additionally, however, we will discuss a selection of texts that deal specifically with theories of culture in order to meet the focus on culture of the Kulturwirt. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the classes on a regular basis. In addition, they are expected to write a number of short assignments and will have to pass a written exam (-Klausur-) at the end of the course. A reader with the texts will be available at the copy-shop Unser Kopierladen (Reckhammerweg 4) at the start of the semester. In addition to the reader, all students will need to acquire their own copies of Michael Meyer's English and American Literatures (3rd edition) and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (Arden Paperback Edition).
